Turkey's 60-year dream of the domestic automobile city which will take place in Bursa, has added a new one to its advanced technology-oriented work. Bursa Uludağ University Technical Sciences Vocational Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karahan said that with the innovative work they carried out in Bursa Technology Coordination and R&D Center (BUTEKOM), they will ensure that the high battery weight of the domestic car is balanced with composite materials. Professor Dr. Karahan, for the mass production of the domestic automobile study is the first qualification of critical importance in Turkey, he said.

Production and export center in Bursa, Turkey's Cars Initiative Group (TOGG) will be launched in Gemlik focused on domestic automobile project. BUTEKOM, which continues its activities under the leadership of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) in order to develop university-industry cooperation and realize a qualified transformation in the city economy, plays a key role in the technological development of the domestic automobile. Advanced Composite Materials Center of Excellence Project Consultant established within BUTEKOM. Dr. Mehmet Karahan stated that the domestic car is a product of the national technology move and said, “There is an intense need for R&D and innovation studies in the field of composites and automotive for the domestic car project, which was carried out under the leadership of our President. At this point, we carry out active works under the roof of BUTEKOM with qualified personnel, composite production laboratories, test and analysis services. ”

HIGH BATTERY WEIGHT WILL BE BALANCED

Professor Dr. Karahan stated that in BUTEKOM, many projects were developed in the field of technical textiles and composites that provide input directly to the automotive industry in cooperation with university-industry. Pointing out that the automotive industry continues its search for solutions that will reduce vehicle weight and fuel consumption, but also comply with carbon dioxide emission standards, Mehmet Karahan said, “Balancing high battery weight is an important factor especially in electric vehicles and composites have an important effect in these vehicles. However, due to the long production times of composite materials and the high costs, the use of automobiles is restricted and sufficient levels cannot be achieved in mass production. ”

"Another example of a kind in Turkey"

Turkey, indicating to support the work carried out in the production of domestic automakers have launched R & D work on the film with a new technology in the production of composite Buteko Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karahan, said: "The project materials will be developed and standards needed thanks to the production technology and quality, value added, and not technology elsewhere in Turkey, which is one of the most important criteria of the automotive industry will be developed a new technique for rapid production . In addition, carbon fibers provide great advantages in terms of efficiency and lightness due to their properties such as durability and increased area / weight ratios. However, due to the high costs of carbon fiber production, its use in automotive remains limited. As a result of another study to be carried out at BUTEKOM, low-cost carbon fiber production from renewable resources will be realized. These carbon fibers to be produced can be used in composites as reinforcement elements. ”

Professor Dr. Karahan added that the said studies will be carried out more effectively with the partnership of Uludağ University within the scope of TÜBİTAK's 2244 Industrial Doctorate Program.
