• VEX simulates the human shoulder joint without the need for any batteries.

Hyundai Motor Group has developed the Vest EXoskeleton (VEX), a wearable robot, to assist industrial workers who work long hours. VEX imitates the movement of human joints to ease load support and increase body mobility, increasing productivity and reducing worker fatigue in lines. The wearable vest has multi-axis points and combines multiple rotation points with the help of a multi-link muscle.

The state-of-the-art Hyundai VEX robot weighs just 2,5 kg and is 42 percent lighter than similar products. Worn like a backpack, the robot can be adjusted in length up to 18 cm to fit a variety of body sizes. The degree of power assistance can be changed up to six levels.

According to the International Robot Technologies Federation, the wearable robot industry is growing by 14 percent annually, and this figure is gaining momentum day by day. According to analysis, around 2021 commercial robots will be sold worldwide by 630.000, with the largest demand coming from the automotive industry. In 2017, 126.000 robots were supplied to the automobile industry alone and were put into use on the production lines of all commercial enterprises.

The Hyundai Motor Group, which closely follows the industry and technology trend, will continue to invest continuously in these wearable robots. It will also strengthen its presence in the wearable robot industry by developing relevant technologies.
